KEETMANSHOOP: More than 10 youth from Ariamsvlei settlement in the Karasburg district joined the Swapo-Party Youth League (SPYL) Sunday and received membership cards.

Membership cards were issued at the SPYL district fundraising braai held in Ariamsvlei some 110 kilometres east of Karasburg town in the Karas Region.

The party’s youth league Secretary for Karasburg district Eliaser Kandume reported to Nampa in a telephonic interview Sunday that other youth who want to join the party will receive their membership next week.

“Unfortunately we ran out of membership cards at the fundraising braai, but we will make sure that they will be provided to those who said they want to join the SPYL here,” Kandume said.

He added that this year he plans to hold more part events to raise money for the district account, campaign and recruit more young people into the party.

The fundraising event on Sunday has raised N.dollars 8 272 that will be put into the district’s bank account and be used to hold more events.

“As soon as we have made a lot of money, we will think of assisting street children and also pay school fees for destitute children,” he promised.

According to the young politician, the braai was held in Ariamsvlei as there have been little party events lately; it is aimed at raising the party spirit in that settlement.

He described the event as an important step in the essential process of campaigning for party success, developing stronger relations between members, building strong party structures at all levels

“It is high time to harness change, your on-going active role is critical to many areas of public interest such as speaking out against tribalism that creates divisions amongst our people. Let’s Speak out against labour related issues and also motivate and help each other to find jobs or create job opportunities for ourselves,” he encouraged.
