Banfora Meeting Focuses on Agricultural Development and Industrialization in Burkina Faso’s Cascades Region

BANFORA – Captain Ibrahim Traore, the President of the Transition and Head of State, engaged in direct discussions with the active forces of the Cascades region this Tuesday in Banfora. Representatives from Léraba and Comoé, encompassing various socio-professional groups, conveyed their support and raised concerns to the Head of State during the meeting.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Captain Traore underscored the importance of unity in combating threats from across the border, urging the local population to stand together with the defense forces. He tasked the governor and heads of administrative districts with organizing local resources and strategies to address potential security challenges effectively.

The discussions also centered on economic development, with a specific focus on agriculture and industrialization. Captain Traore highlighted the government’s efforts toward food self-sufficiency, initiated through projects like the Presidential Initiative for Agriculture and the 2023-2025 agrosilvopastoral and fisheries offensive. These initiatives aim to diagnose and overcome the obstacles hampering agricultural productivity and to transition from subsistence farming.

Additionally, the President announced plans to revitalize the nationalized sugar company SN-SOSUCO, which is in disrepair, and to promote the construction of new factories and the rehabilitation of existing production and processing units using the capital of state-owned enterprises.

Security, health, education, infrastructure, and the operational needs of the Banfora Regional Hospital Center were also prominent topics during the discussions. The President assured that these issues would be addressed at the government level to align solutions with the urgency of needs and the aspirations of the regional population.
