President Faye Advocates for Revamped EU-Senegal Partnership

DAKAR – President Bassirou Diomaye Faye of Senegal expressed his aspiration on Monday for a renewed and visionary partnership with the European Union (EU).

According to Burkina Information Agency, this partnership should be thoughtful, modernized, and enriched by a shared vision of a fairer international order that reflects today’s realities. His remarks came after a meeting with Charles Michel, President of the European Council, who was visiting Dakar.

During the discussions, President Faye thanked the EU for its support in various sectors such as water, energy, agriculture, health, transport, digital technology, youth, and employment. He also acknowledged President Michel’s support for Africa’s inclusion in the G20, aiming for more balanced and inclusive global governance. President Faye highlighted his government’s priorities, which include fostering an endogenous economic model centered on industrialization with agriculture, livestock, and fishing as core elements. He also emphasized the need for stronger economic infrastructure and a gradual reduction of the budget deficit through improved public spending quality and more efficient taxation.

The dialogue with President Michel also covered the Sahel’s situation and the ongoing fight against terrorism, noting the intertwined peace and stability of Africa and Europe. President Faye assured his continuous availability to work with European partners to strengthen the ties between Senegal and Europe.
