PRETORIA– South African President Cyril Ramaphosa will deliver the keynote address at the national memorial service for the late Winnie Madikizela-Mandela at the Mphuthumi Mafumbatha stadium in Bizana in Eastern Cape Province on Wednesday.
Preparations are underway to honour her and dignitaries are expected to flock to the area on Tuesday to celebrate her life, says the Eastern Cape Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Arts and Culture, Pemmy Majodina.
There is going to be a night vigil at Mbhongweni tonight (Monday night) then tomorrow ministers, ANC leadership and SACP are expected to come also to join the thousands of mourners, she said Monday.
At Madikizela-Mandela’s ancestral home of Bizana, residents are preparing to pay their last respects. They remember all the good things she did for them.
Resident Mthandeni Swana says: She built a school at Mbhongweni village. She was also going to help us by building toilets where a young pupil died. We love her so much, RIP mama.
Her legacy will live on and be remembered for generations to come. The Eastern Cape government says they are expecting more than 12,000 people to attend the service on Tuesday. Young and old are expected to honour ma Winnie African style.
