July 27, 2015 – Surrey, British Columbia – Western Economic Diversification Canada
Today, Russ Hiebert, Member of Parliament for South Surrey—White Rock—Cloverdale, on behalf of the Honourable Michelle Rempel, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support of over $330,000 for three projects under the Government of Canada’s Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program.
In Budget 2015, the Government of Canada announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. The Government committed $150 million for the Program, in order to provide significant support for community and cultural infrastructure across the country, as we celebrate Canada 150th anniversary of Confederation.
The Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program will help fund renovations, expansions and rehabilitations to existing infrastructure that provides community and cultural benefits for the public. The Program represents one of several infrastructure-related initiatives that the Government of Canada has undertaken to generate well-being and prosperity across Canada.
- The national Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program provides $150 million over two years to be delivered by regional development agencies across the country. It is part of the federal government’s activities to honour Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017. WD is responsible for the distribution of $46,200,200 over two years for Western Canada.
- The three projects being announced today will upgrade existing signage to city parks and trails in White Rock; will help with undertaking capital improvements to the Sunnyside Hall in Surrey; and will support upgrades to the Cloverdale Legion.
“As Canada prepares to celebrate its 150th anniversary of Confederation, our Government is helping to renovate, expand and rehabilitate existing infrastructure that provides community and cultural benefits for Canadians. With our support through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program, Canadians from coast to coast to coast will benefit from improved and enhanced public spaces and facilities.”
– Russ Hiebert, Member of Parliament for South Surrey—White Rock—Cloverdale
“Thanks the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program, the Legion will receive $152,000 in federal support that will form part of a major upgrade and renovation to our building. In 1957 our building was rebuilt after a major fire and now we will be able to insure that the building remains standing for many more years.”
– Frank Redekop, President Royal Canadian Legion Branch 6, Cloverdale
