WINDHOEK: The bucket toilet system in the settlement of Aus in the Luderitz Constituency will soon be something of the past, with the commencement of the second phase of the sewerage project.
Chairperson of the Karas Regional Council and Luderitz Constituency Councillor Jan Scholtz told Nampa on Wednesday that Government has big plans for the settlement, such as the development and upliftment of residents there.
The construction of the sewerage project, being implemented at a cost of N.dollars 8 million, is on track, and phase one has already been completed.
Another development is the allocation of 26 houses to pensioners and the destitute living at Aus.
According to Scholtz, the project is already at the Ministry of Regional and Local Government, Housing and Rural Development for approval, adding that the surveying of nearly 90 erven is also in progress, so that the Karas Regional Council can start with social housing for residents at a cost of N.dollars 500 000.
On the construction of a railway line between Aus and Luderitz to improve freight and passenger services in the constituency, Scholtz said work is progressing well.
