ANTICIPATION BREWS AHEAD OF JAN 8 STATEMENT FROM SOUTH AFRICA’S RULING ANC PARTY
Close attention will be given to the 105th anniversary celebrations of South Africa's ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC), at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto, Johannesburg, this weekend.
President Jacob Zuma, in his capacity as leader of the governing party, will deliver the party's annual Jan 8 Statement to mark the founding date of the party.
The statement is a rallying call to party members to support the ANC Programme of Action of the year, a tradition which dates back to the years when the party was outlawed and its leaders lived ion exile.
This will be the last time for Zuma to delivers the Jan 8 Statement on behalf of the ANC as the party will hold its elective conference in December when a new leader will be elected.
ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe on Tuesday mobilised communities to attend the rally on Sunday.
