Landslide at Illegal Gold Panning Site in Tiébélé Kills Six

TIÉBÉLÉ – A tragic landslide at an illegal gold panning site in the village of Kaya, within the commune of Tiébélé, resulted in the deaths of six individuals and injuries to four others, occurring between the night of April 23 and the morning of April 24, 2024.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the incident has prompted a response from security services and a subsequent report to the Faso prosecutor at the Pô High Court. Despite the prohibition against exploitation of the site, individuals continued to mine illegally, leading to this fatal accident. The bodies of the deceased were handed over to their families for burial as the community grapples with this loss.
