Russia Commits to Strengthening African Sovereignty and Security, Lavrov Says

Moscow – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has pledged continued support for the sovereignty and security of African nations, emphasizing educational and strategic partnerships during a video message at the inauguration of the III International Youth Forum “Russia-Africa: what next?”

According to Burkina Information Agency, Russia will enhance its efforts to support African states by promoting the consolidation of human resource potential, notably through increased scholarships, the establishment of Russian university and school branches, and the development of open education centers across the continent. These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to build long-term strategic partnerships with African countries.

The Russian Foreign Minister reiterated that strengthening ties with Africa ranks among the top priorities in Russia’s foreign policy, as outlined in the Updated Foreign Policy Concept approved by President Vladimir Putin on March 31 last year. Lavrov described Africa as a significant player in the multipolar architecture that is shaping the new world order.

Lavrov also acknowledged the notable achievements of African nations in national development, attributing these successes to the active participation of young people in political, economic, and humanitarian endeavors.

The forum is hosted by the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), with TASS agency serving as the media partner.
