KAISOSI: A young man believed to be in his early twenties hanged himself with a rope at the Kaisosi informal settlement on the eastern outskirts of Rundu on Sunday evening.

The deceased, who has been identified as Kaisosi resident Samuel Sikerete, allegedly left his home on Sunday evening. His body was then discovered by a passerby on Monday morning at around 06h00 after it fell from the tree which he had hanged himself in.

Sikerete allegedly hanged himself because he was ashamed at being found in possession of a stolen mattress which belonged to one of his family members.

His next-of-kin have been informed of his death and the police have opened an inquest docket into the incident.

In an unrelated incident, police on Sunday arrested a 34-year-old man who stands accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl at Gcaruha village situated some 90 kilometres west of Rundu in the Kahenge Constituency.

The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Crime Investigations Co-ordinator for the Kavango Region, Deputy Commissioner Willie Bampton said on Monday that the suspect had allegedly been sexually assaulting the minor girl from December last year to August this year, when the police opened a case against the suspect.

The suspect’s name is known to Nampa, but cannot be revealed as he is expected to make his first appearance in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
