ONGWEDIVA: The finals of popular Old Mutual Far North Championships for this year will be held at the Independence Stadium at Oshakati this Saturday.
“At Old Mutual, we believe in creating platforms for local athletes, whereby they can improve their athletics’ skills whilst unlocking opportunities for sponsorship and professional training,” said Old Mutual Namibia’s Area Manager for Retail Mass, Obed Mushaandja here on Wednesday evening.
Speaking during the Old Mutual Northern Media Engagement Dinner, Mushaandja pointed out that over 48 teams participated in this year’s football and netball games since the launch of the 2012 Old Mutual Far North Championships earlier this year.
“This engagement puts the development of both schools sports high on the agenda of the developmental programmes and support as part of our corporate social responsibility,” Mushaandja explained.
He described the Old Mutual Far North Championships as one of many value-driven initiatives undertaken by Old Mutual to address social development needs within the Namibian communities.
The Oshana Region’s Gabriel Taapopi Senior Secondary School (SSS), Pendukeni Iivula-Ithana SSS (Omusati Region), Ongha SSS (Ohangwena Region) and Uukule SSS (Oshikoto Region) are the four schools that are going to participate in the netball finals of the 2012 Old Mutual Far North Championships.
The schools that have reached the finals in the football category of the championships are Andimba Toivo Ya Toivo SSS (Oshana Region), Ruacana High School ( Omusati Region), Oshela SSS (Ohangwena Region) and Onguti SSS (Oshikoto Region).
