WALVIS BAY: One of Namibia’s first naval ships, the Naval Ship (NS) Lieutenant-General Dimo Hamaambo was auctioned off for N.dollars 500 000 here yesterday.
The ship was auctioned off by the auctioning services of the Ministry of Works and Transport, to Scrap Salvage, a company which recycles metal waste.
The ship was donated to the Namibian Government by the Brazilian Government in 2004, and was named after Namibian hero, the late Lieutenant-General (Lt-Gen) Dimo Hamaambo.
Hamaambo was one of the founders of the People’s Liberation Army of Namibia (PLAN) and the first Chief of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF). The ship was officially decommissioned by Navy Commander, Rear Admiral Peter Vilho on 13 August this year.
