KEETMANSHOOP: The Keetmanshoop Rugby Club made their town proud after winning the first prize during the tournament held here on Saturday, walking away with N.dollars 6 500 cash.
They smashed the Polytechnic of Namibia (PoN) Rugby Club with 14 goals to nil during the final game at Keetmanshoop stadium.
Fabian Garth from Keetmanshoop was named player of the tournament and awarded N.dollars 500.
As the runner-ups Polytechnic team received N.dollars 4 500 and Dolphins Rugby Club from Swakopmund took the third prize of N.dollars 2 500.
In fourth place is the University of Namibia (UNAM) Rugby team that received N.dollars 1 000.
The Arende team of Rosh Pinah also participated in the one day tournament.
The tournament was organized by the Keetmanshoop Rugby Organising Committee who invited the participating teams.
Speaking to Nampa in an interview Tuesday the Coach for Keetmanshoop Rugby Club Randolf O’Brien expressed his appreciation to supporters, sponsors and most importantly to the team for putting up an amazing performance.
“We play in the First Division those teams play in the Premier League but we defeated them, so it is something to be proud of,” coach said.
He used the opportunity to request local businesses to give financial sponsorship to the team as they will be heading to Swakopmund for the same tournament on 27 October.
The Swakopmund Dolphins are organizing the next tournament for October.
“My boys are playing so well that’s why we want to go to Swakopmund and test them again,” O’Brien said.
Saturday’s tournament was sponsored by TJ Civil Tech as the main sponsor, Diems Insurance Brokers, Reggie’s Sporty Wear and Johnny’s Auto Electric among other sponsors.
