GOBABIS: A series of events pertaining to child pornography and indecent exposure on the premises of a high school in the Omaheke Region has sent shockwaves amongst the education fraternity in the region.
A 13-year-old girl was left traumatised and had to go for psychological treatment after she was forcibly undressed, had her legs spread apart and her private parts fondled with by her fellow school hostel mates.
The Grade 8 leaner, whose name is known but withheld to protect her identity, was then forced to ‘model’ stark naked for her attackers while still pictures of her naked frame was being captured.
Nampa learnt that such pictures have since been posted on the popular social networking site, Facebook.
The incident occurred at the Wennie du Plessis School hostel over a week ago. All perpetrators in the matter were fellow school girls.
The dust surrounding the cruel acts on the minor had barely settled when reports of a group of girls who stripped to the core in full sight of their male teacher who was busy with a lesson, came to the fore.
The incident, which occurred at the same school, is said to have taken place a few days after the sexual abuse of the minor.
According to information obtained by this agency, a Grade 10 girl stood up in the middle of a lesson, unbuttoned her school uniform and stripped naked. Before the teacher, who was busy conducting a lesson, could bring the upheaval caused by the girl under control – two more girls followed suit and also undressed in full view of the entire class.
Teachers at the school has blamed the latest incident on alcohol, noting that the girls were spotted at a popular hang-out spot the entire weekend before the event, where they were indulging in excessive alcohol abuse.
The Education Regional Director for Omaheke, Natalia Goagoses has condemned both incidents, noting that her office has been doing investigation into what exactly transpired.
“This is a serious matter and we are leaving no stone unturned to find out what exactly happened. This is really a serious case of moral decay amongst our communities. To think that school kids can do such a thing to another innocent child is just unimaginable,” she said.
Goagoses said the culprits have been identified and are currently being counselled. The Director has however ruled out expulsion or suspension for the culprits due to the fact that they are in the middle of examinations.
“We cannot suspend or expel them at this stage as that will do more harm than good. What we are doing is isolate them from the rest of the students so that they can receive professional psychological help,” she noted.
The minor has since returned to school after receiving intensive counselling.
Wennie du Plessis have been rocked by reports of ill-discipline, alcohol abuse and irrational behaviour amongst learners over the past few years.
Reports of a school teacher, who raped a school learner at a school at Otjinene, also came to the fore. The teachers, who doubles up as a hostel Superintendent allegedly lured the school girl to his house and raped her on the school premises over a week ago.
The case is currently under investigation by both the education directorate and the Police.
