FIVE PEOPLE ARRESTED FOR PETROL BOMB ATTACK ON BUS WHICH KILLED SIX MINERS

MECKLENBURG, SOUTH AFRICA– Five persons have been arrested in connection with the petrol-bomb attack on a bus carrying mine workers which claimed six lives on Monday night near Burgersfort in Limpopo Province.

The five are expected to make their first court appearance at the Mecklenburg Magistrate’s Court here to face charges of murder, attempted murder and malicious damage to property.

They attacked a bus carrying 52 mine workers. Six people died and 28 miners are still being treated in hospital.

Limpopo Police Spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said the five suspects, aged between 21 and 30 years, were arrested Wednesday after an intensive investigation. They were arrested at five different locations.

Meanwhile, the process to identify the six deceased mine workers is expected to be completed soon.

Police said more arrests are imminent.
