OPUWO: The construction of the modern maternity ward at the Opuwo state District Hospital has kicked off last week here.
The Director of Health in the Kunene Region, Thomas Shapumba told Nampa that the official handover of the side would be done by the Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr. Rechard Kamwi on 31 July this year.
Shapumba was talking to Nampa on Tuesday.
The idea for the construction of the maternity ward at Opuwo State District Hospital came in 2009 together with the plan of upgrading the operation theatre by then.
The former Director of Health for the Kunene Region, Linda Nambundunga announced an amount of N.dollars 17. 7 million, which was allocated for that development of the two facilities.
Nambundunga went on retirement last year.
Currently there is no separate maternity ward at the Opuwo District Hospital only one ward has been designated to the women who had given birth or are expecting to go into labor. The babies are not kept apart from the mothers as there are not such facilities at the hospital.
