KEETMANSHOOP: A 23-year-old woman from Ariamsvlei settlement in the Karas Region bled to death after allegedly being stab with a knife on the left breast, by a 19-year- old female friend.
The deceased Mauricha Elbina Matroos was also stab on the right side of neck, close to the ear; the deceased was pronounced died on the spot.
The two were allegedly fighting over an alcoholic drink called Overmeer and that is how the suspect took a knife and stabs the deceased.
The incident took place at Herrachabis Farm in Ariamsvlei area around 23h00 on Tuesday.
Ariamsvlei is situated 110 kilometres east of Karasburg town.
Crime Investigations Coordinator of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in Karas Deputy Commissioner Rudolf Isaak told Nampa that the fight started when the suspect took the deceased’s Overmeer and drinks it without consent.
“She (suspect) apparently just grab the drink and start drinking it without asking for permission and then they start fighting leading to stabbing and death,” Isaak said.
Matroos’ family is already informed about her death.
Suspect was arrested that Tuesday and is expected to appear in the Karasburg District Court tomorrow.
Isaak also report that two suspects aged 29 and 22 were arrested on Wednesday afternoon in connection with drug dealings.
Thirty bags of cannabis weighing 7.52 kilograms with a street value of N.dollars 22 560 and two sachets containing what police suspect to be cocaine, was found in the suspects’ possession.
“Police received information about the suspects who were travelling in a minibus from Widhoek to Lüderitz with cannabis and suspected cocaine. They set up a roadblock 10 kilometres from Keetmanshoop and arrested the suspects,” says Isaak.
The suspected drug will be sent for testing to determine whether it is really cocaine.
Police will also have to determine the weight and value of the drug.
“These drugs were destined for Lüderitz but we managed to arrest the suspect before they reach there,” noted Isaak.
Suspects are expected to appear in the Keetmanshoop Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
