WINDHOEK: United States of America Ambassador to Namibia, Wanda Nesbitt on Monday paid a courtesy call on President Hifikepunye Pohamba to primarily update him on the programmes her government is carrying out in Namibia.
The meeting that was requested by the Ambassador, was also aimed at sharing information on the objectives of the strategic plan of the US Government towards Africa.
“It is a strategy to help us, ambassadors and embassies overseas, to focus a lot more attention on encouraging trade and investment in Africa,” she explained, adding that their embassies overseas must encourage American business communities to come and explore business opportunities in Africa, particularly in Namibia.
“President Barack Obama has asked us to support democratic institutions, because we believe that such institutions contribute to peace and stability,” noted Nesbitt.
She added that their embassies are also asked to work with the youth in encouraging them to acquire the necessary skills, and also promote the empowerment of women in Africa.
Nesbitt has been in Namibia for about one and half years after her processor, Dennise Mathieu’s term ended.
