Ethiopia Sees BRICS as Platform to Boost Civil Society Engagement

ADDIS ABABA — The Authority for Civil Society Organizations in Ethiopia highlighted the BRICS bloc as a significant opportunity for enhancing the engagement and capacity of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).

According to Ethiopian News Agency, the BRICS alliance could foster exchanges of experience and financial support among CSOs from member countries. These discussions were part of a broader interaction with Russian civil society experts and associations from BRICS countries.

Deputy Director-General Fasika Mola emphasized the Ethiopian government’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for civil society, which is integral to the nation’s democratic and development processes. Recent political reforms have aimed to revive and empower civic engagement in Ethiopia, reversing previous restrictions and encouraging active participation in national development and democratization efforts.
