Kisumu and Kericho Governors Sign Peace Pact to Resolve Sondu Border Conflict

Kisumu, Kenya – Kisumu County Governor Prof. Anyang Nyong’o and Kericho Governor Erick Mutai have officially signed a peace agreement aimed at resolving the longstanding border conflict in Sondu town, which has historically disrupted local commerce and resulted in loss of lives.

According to Kenya News Agency, facilitated by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), both counties have agreed to halt revenue collection at the disputed border until a clear demarcation is established by state authorities. The peace agreement, signed in the presence of NCIC Chairperson Rev. Samuel Kobia and Commissioner Phillip Okundi, includes commitments from both governors to pass legislation promoting peace and coexistence.

The agreed measures include the implementation of joint political and developmental projects, the creation of mechanisms for resolving cross-border conflicts, and the establishment of a peace park in Sondu within the next 60 days. Governor Nyong’o emphasized that the agreement also focuses on youth empowerment programs in both counties to tackle issues of marginalization and ensure a peaceful future for the area’s residents.
