PRETORIA, Uber South Africa has requested an urgent meeting with the South African Ministers of Police and Transport to address the on-going war between its partner drivers and the metered taxi industry.
The request came Monday after an Uber partner driver, Lindelani Mashau, died overnight after suffering serious burn wounds.
Mashau was in his car when it was set alight, allegedly by metered taxi drivers, outside Loftus Versveld in Pretoria, more than a month ago. He died unexpectedly last night.
Uber Movement co-founder Theresa Munchick says Mashau’s family has asked for privacy.
He did die last night (Sunday) around 01:30 am; his family has asked for privacy in terms of his name and photograph from being released. But unfortunately yes, he did die.
