WINDHOEK: This past weekend saw 19 horse riders from the Erongo and Khomas regions taking place in the 2012 Namibia Equestrian Federation (NAMEF) Equitation Championships at the Nubuamis Riding Club outside Windhoek. This prestigious sport code is a combination between horse riding skills and jumping over obstacles.
Riders took place in the children’s , junior and adult category and apart from riding skills performances, riders had to show their skills jumping over several obstacles ranging from 80 centimeters to up to a meter.
The event took place over two days with the final qualifications taking place yesterday afternoon. Apart from riding their own horses which they are familiar with , riders had to change horses during the competition to prove to the judges their riding skills and abilities making the competition more difficult.
Despite a hot day and windy at times the riders pulled of a good performance.
The 2012 NAMEF Equitation champions for 2012 were all female riders, In the children’s category it was Laura Braune on her horse ‘Rostock Ritz Rolling Thunder ‘that was crowned the champion, while Alexa Rack on ‘Assagai Winterdance ‘and Michelle Kunzle on ‘Metzger Drilling Zambesi’ who took the Juniors and adults trophies respectively.
Riders had to ensure their best performances as some judges came as far as South Africa to evaluate the riders.
