SWAKOPMUND: The notorious Swakopmund-Walvis Bay road was filled with debris late on Saturday afternoon after a Land Cruiser collided with a bus there earlier on.
Detective Inspector Johny Mwatongwe of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in Walvis Bay told Nampa in a telephonic interview yesterday that the collision occurred because the Land Cruiser, which had been coming from Swakopmund, had been driving in the lane of the oncoming bus, which had been driving from Walvis Bay.
The sole occupant of the Land Cruiser, who is employed on the set of the ‘Mad Max’ movie currently being filmed at the coast, sustained serious injuries and was transported to the Walvis Bay State Hospital.
The 18 Salz Gossow employees who had been transported in the bus managed to escape with only minor injuries and were released from the same hospital shortly after receiving medical attention.
Mwatongwe told Nampa that before the accident, the Walvis Bay Traffic Department had apparently received a tip from a concerned motorist who indicated that the driver of the Land Cruiser had been driving recklessly.
