WINDHOEK: A member of the Women and Men Network community policing unit died after being shot by an armed robber at a shopping centre in Katutura’s Okuryangava residential area yesterday.
Inspector Kauna Shikwambi of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) said during a media briefing here today four suspects had been attempting to rob a security guard when the incident occurred.
The security guard was in possession of money paid by customers to enter the shopping centre.
When the suspects failed in their attempts to rob the security guard, they fired shots into the air, injuring the man who had been on a routine patrol of the shopping centre.
The suspects did not manage to get away with anything, and three of them have since been arrested, while the fourth is still at large.
Shikwambi did not specify where on his body the man was injured, but indicated that he died in the Katutura State Hospital.
