The truck belongs to Anton Transport, and was travelling from South Africa to Windhoek, pulling two tanks of diesel.
Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Chief Inspector at Keetmanshoop, Bennie Groenewald told Nampa on Sunday that one of the tyres of the tank carrying 11 000 litres of diesel burst, causing it to overturn and spill some of the diesel.
“I think it is only half of the diesel that spilt, and I cannot really say how much money the company has lost,” he said.
Groenewald said the other tank and truck pulling it did not overturn, thus the driver did not sustain any injuries.
The overturned tank with the remaining diesel were towed back to Keetmanshoop, while the truck and other tank proceeded to Windhoek on Saturday.
“No diesel was stolen from the scene, because the police arrived on time and made sure everything is protected,” Groenewald assured.
