SOUTH AFRICA F.A. SUSPENDS NATIONAL COACH OVER REPORTED CRITICISMS
The South Africa Football Association (SAFA) has suspended Bafana Bafana head coach Shakes Mashaba with immediate effect following his reported criticism of his e,ployers for lack of support.
Mashaba, whose commends came after South Africa’s 2-1 victory over Senegal in an African zone qualifier for the r2018 FIFA World Cup at Polokwane, capital of Limpopo Province, on Saturday, will not join the team on their trip to Mozambique for Tuesday’s international friendly match.
SAFA says it has deemed it necessary to employ disciplinary measures against Mashaba “after a regrettable incident at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday”.
SAFA released a statement confirming that assistant coach Owen Da Gama will take charge of the team in the international against Mozambique. It added that it would not be making any further comments on this matter.
It is alleged that Mashaba criticised SAFA after Saturday’s win against Senegal, accusing them of lack of support. It is still unclear what charges Mashaba is facing, but he was also seen having an altercation with an SABC presenter before a post-match interview.
In recent months, Mashaba has had an acrimonious relationship with the South African media accusing it of negative reporting.
