ONGWEDIVA: An annual conference of the Students Christian Movement (SCM) in Namibia, which commenced here on Thursday and ended on Sunday, has re-elected Shali Kapepo as the movement’s Secretary-General.
Kapepo confirmed his re-election to NAMPA on Tuesday. He is to be deputized by Tudiminapo Shindume, while Liina Shigwedha and Albertina Shiimi were elected as the chairperson and vice-chairperson, respectively.
According to Kapepo, Linus Lukas also retained his portfolio of a treasurer of the movement and he is to be deputized by Helena Nankela.
Also elected to the leadership of the SCM during the conference on Saturday night was Reverend Tarah Shalyefu as the administrative secretary.
The elected leaders will be in charge of the movement for the next three years. “The conference went very well and we got new ideas from the youths during the course of the conference,” Kapepo noted.
He added that the conference was held under the theme “Environmental Justice” and, as such, the participants pledged to plant more trees upon their return to their respective communities.
“The Southern Region donated uniform clothes of 50 shirts and 50 pairs of socks during the conference,” said Kapepo, adding that the donated shirts and socks are going to be distributed to a primary school which has more vulnerable children.
Some 615 delegates from 44 branches of the SCM’s six regions of Far Eastern, Eastern, Southern, Central, Central Western and Western attended the conference which took place at Ongwediva Town’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Namibia (ELCIN) Centre.
