WINDHOEK: President Hifikepunye Pohamba on Wednesday asked residents of the Moses Garoeb Constituency in Katutura to be patient as plans are underway to bring more services to this community.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Moses Garoeb Constituency office building here on Wednesday, Pohamba said the Windhoek Municipality has already started with the demarcation of 1 567 erven in Havana Extension Two, which will facilitate better planning in terms of the servicing of land and the designation of relevant areas for businesses and residential purposes.
With regard to sanitation, the Head of State said several toilet facilities have been built in the Ombili, OohambodhaNehale and Patrick Iiyambo locations.
He said the potable water supply network was also upgraded this year in the OohambodhaNehale, Gabes Shihepo and Kabila B areas.
Pohamba stressed that a number of roads in the constituency have also been tarred, including Orusu Street, Omungondo Street, Omakaru Street and Etanga Street.
He said these developments will in the coming years be accompanied by further improvement in sanitation, the tarring of more roads, expansion of power supply and the strengthening of the capacity of law enforcement services in the area.
“I have no doubt that the residents of the Moses Garoeb Constituency will continue to enjoy the benefits of improved service delivery as part of the growing city of Windhoek. Our government will continue to focus on the needs of our people especially in areas such as this one, when services are clearly needed,” Pohamba said.
The Head of State further stated that Government has taken note of the challenges faced by people who reside in informal settlements in towns and cities in the country, which include the provision of water, electricity, housing and sanitation, safety and security and infrastructure. He added that the government is aware that more needs to be done in order to improve and expand access to health care, as well as other services.
“We recognise the high demand for education in this constituency, as well as in other parts of the country. I encourage the parents in this constituency to make use so that their children attend. There is a primary as well as a secondary school in this constituency. They were built in order to bring education closer to residents,” he said.
There are more than 30 kindergartens operating in Moses Garoeb Constituency.
