WINDHOEK: Over 150 schools and Government facilities in rural areas were electrified during the 2011/12 financial year.
Minister of Finance Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila said this while tabling the 2013/2014 National Budget in Parliament on Tuesday.
Kuugongelwa-Amadhila said that under the energy sector, the technical assessment for the Baynes Hydro Power Project has been completed, and consultation with affected communities will pave the way forward for this important project.
The Baynes Hydro Power Project is being developed on the Kunene River about 40 kilometres downstream of the Epupa Falls at an estimated cost of about N.dollars 10 billion.
The minister said increased investments have been made in respect to ensuring a secure power supply to the mining sector and the port of Walvis Bay.
She added that the preparatory phase for the Kudu Gas Project is now underway and commercial arrangements with upstream partners are being pursued.
