_: OTJIWARONGO: The Namibian Police (NamPol) in Otjozondjupa Region on Saturday confiscated bags full of dry meat at a camp set in the middle of a commercial farm some 40 kilometres east of Otjiwarongo.
The Otjozondjupa Regional Police Deputy Commander, Deputy Commissioner Gerhard Uataurua Mavenjono told Nampa in an interview on Monday that the recovered meat is estimated to be of a value over N.dollars 20 000. “We recovered dried meat on Saturday at a camp in the middle of Farm Northland situated 40 kilometres east of Otjiwarongo,” noted Mavenjono.
The police chief here says there is none arrested yet in connection with the incident, but there are suspects being linked to the case. Mavenjono explained that seven cattle were reported to his office missing from the Northland farm earlier this month.
NamPol members were then dispatched to some suspected farms searching the seven cattle including the Northland farm. “During the police search, a camp made out of tens inside a Northland farm was found. The police had therefore continued searching and found three slaughtering points of cattle inside the same farm where nine bags full of dry meat were found,” he said.
However, the dry meat was weighed and it was found that it is of two cattle and calf not of the seven cattle which were reported to his office missing, he said. The dry meat was then given to owners on Saturday, those who reported missing their cattle to his office.
Deputy commissioned Mavenjono has now issued a stern warning to all criminals here hoping to find a lucrative business through stock theft. “There is no chance for you (criminals) in Otjozondjupa Region, we will arrest all of you hoping to make a living by stealing other people’s properties,” charged Mavenjono.
