Pretoria: President Jacob Zuma has appointed 10 new members to serve on the Municipal Demarcation Board, the Presidency announced on Tuesday.
According to the Presidency’s spokesperson, Mac Maharaj, the new board will serve for a period of five years with effect from 20 February 2014.
The new board will be led by Jane Thupana as chairperson, while Ashraf Mohamed Adam will be a deputy chairperson of the board. The new Members of the Board are:
Other members include Isobel Konyn, Lebina Daniel Tsotetsi, Nompumelelo Mpofu, Simphiwe Dzengwa, Shivon Wiggins, Maruping Michael Wildebees, Makhosi Busisiwe Khoza and Mmatsie Sophia Mooki.
The Municipal Demarcation Board is an independent authority responsible for the determination of municipal boundaries.
In addition to the determinations and re-determinations of municipal boundaries, the board is also mandated by legislation to declare the district management areas; to delimit wards for local elections; and to assess the capacity of municipalities to perform their functions.
