NKURENKURU: The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Kahenge district on Monday arrested a 24-year-old man after he allegedly strangled his girlfriend to death here on Sunday evening.

NamPol’s Kavango Regional Crime Investigations’ Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Willie Bampton told Nampa on Tuesday that the suspect and the deceased had an argument inside a bar, and soon after the suspect dragged her outside where he allegedly strangled her with his bare hands.

The suspect allegedly ran away after realising that his girlfriend was unconscious.

It is alleged that the suspect strangled his lover after establishing that she had apparently been having an affair with someone else.

The deceased, identified as Cecilia Petrus, was found dead behind the bar on Monday morning, with bruises around her neck.

Her next of kin have been informed.

The suspect, whose name is known, is expected to appear in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

Nkurenkuru is situated some 130km west of Rundu.

In a separate incident, the police here opened a case of culpable homicide after the driver of a Toyota pick-up vehicle allegedly bumped a 16-year-old boy to death at the Haisisira village, situated 50km west of Rundu on Friday at 19h30.

The driver, Kalomo Ndeulikufa, 57, was not arrested.

The deceased was identified as Paulus Nakwa, a resident of the Haisisira village.

His next of kin were informed.
