Pretoria: The Department of Labour has officially kicked off the first phase of its organisational review strategy, Project Shanduka, which is aimed at unlocking service delivery. Speaking ahead of a two-day report-back visit to the department’s KwaZulu-Natal staff, Director General Nkosinathi Nhleko said Project Shanduka was a change management initiative.
“Project Shanduka’s objective is to respond to concerns that were raised … [by the] department’s staff.
“The strategy is being implemented already. It will address issues around the lack of tools of trade, the optimal utilisation of people according to their competence, address full utilisation of resources and deal with issues of accommodation. “Where there is a need to redeploy resources we will do so,” Nhleko said.
Project Shanduka’s intention is to elevate the Department of Labour into being ‘an employer of choice and centre of training’, and to make it a ‘client-centric’organisation. Nhleko will next visit department staff in the Western Cape on February 13-14 and the Eastern Cape on February 25-26.
