Foreign minister presents 50 tons of dates to President

The Foreign Affairs minister, Neneh Macdouall Gaye has presented 50 tons of dates to the Gambian leader His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya AJJ Jammeh Babili Mansa, through the ministers of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology; and the Health, Dr Abubacarr Senghore and Omar Sey respectively, at a ceremony held at State House.

The presentation ceremony was a follow-up to the one earlier held at The Gambia Ports Authority, where officials of the Foreign Affairs ministry took delivery of the gesture donated to The Gambia government by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Presenting the gesture to the two ministers, the minister of Foreign Affairs, Neneh Macdoull Gaye, reminded the gathering that recently they received 50 tons of dates from the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the government of The Gambia and these dates were being presented to His Excellency the President through the Higher Education and Health ministers, and officials from the Gambia Supreme Islamic Council.

“It is my singular honour and privilege to stand here and hand over these 50 tons of dates to the representatives of His Excellency the President,” she said, adding that the gift is highly appreciated.

“As we all know the value of dates, dating way back to our great prophet (PBUH), and scientifically it has been said that there is lot of nutritional health properties in dates, so we definitely appreciate this gesture”.

On receiving the donation, the Higher Education minister, Dr Abubacarr Senghore, also returned thanks to the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the gesture.

“On behalf of His Excellency the President of the Republic of The Gambia, my humble self and my colleague minister of Health, we happily receive this valuable gift from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, one of the best friends of The Gambia, to the President and the people of The Gambia”.

He assured that the President, whom he said is always in the service of the Ummah, as part of his mission to serve humanity entirely would definitely ensure that this gift reaches every corner in this country.

“Once again, we want to sincerely thank you very much for keeping this trust, because this is one of the most important values of life,” he concluded.
