'EUsaveLIVES/You save Lives' at Expo Milan 2015

Christos Stylianides, EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management and Winnie Byanyima, Executive Director of Oxfam International, will open a series of events dedicated to raising awareness about refugees this weekend at Expo Milan.

The key event is the international premiere of District Zero, a documentary filmed in the Zaatari Syrian refugee camp in Jordan. The screening will take place on Sunday 6 September at 4.45pm in Cascina Triulza.

There will also be a street event, a photo exhibition and public meetings to illustrate Oxfam’s and the EU’s everyday humanitarian assistance to refugees worldwide. See the full schedule.

All these events are taking place as part of the EUsaveLIVES/You save Lives awareness-raising campaign by the European Commission and Oxfam.

Background

EUsaveLIVES/You Save Lives is the awareness-raising campaign run jointly by the European Commission and Oxfam to inform the European public about the tragic situation of the world’s refugees.

Worldwide, 59.5 million people – almost as many as the whole Italian population – have been forced to leave their homes because of war or conflicts. They are men, women, elderly people and children who had to leave everything behind and are in need of clean water, food and shelter.

The campaign is based on the stories and testimonies of refugees in Syria, South Sudan and the Central African Republic. Their voices and stories are made available at www.eusavelives.org in order to give a face and a name to this enormous crowd of ‘invisible’ people.
