WINDHOEK: The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) on Thursday indicated that it has received the names of four candidates for the Sibbindi Constituency by-election in the Caprivi Region.

The ECN made this announcement in a media statement availed to Nampa.

The by-election, scheduled for 14 September this year, was triggered by the death of Sibbinda Constituency Councillor Felix Mukupi on 17 June 2012.

Mukupi was driving from a Sibbinda Swapo-Party District conference, where he was also elected as the Swapo-Party District Coordinator before his death in a motor-vehicle accident.

“The nomination for the candidates for the Sibbindi Constituency commenced on 30 July, and closed on 15 August 2012,” the statement read.

The following names were nominated as candidates for election as member of the Regional Council for the Sibbindi Constituency in the Caprivi Region: Alfred Chilinda from the Congress of Democrats; Alexius Mibonda (DTA of Namibia); Assens Malumbano (Rally for Democracy and Progress-RDP) and Chunga Ignatius (Swapo-Party).
