WINDHOEK: The Electoral Observation Mission of the African Union AUhas described the just-ended general elections in Angola as “free, fair, transparent and credible”.
These elections took place last Friday.
Angola Press Angopnews agency on Wednesday quoted the Head of the AU Electoral Observation Mission, former Cape Verdean President Pedro Pires as saying that the elections were held according to the Durban Declaration on the Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections in Africa, adopted by the AU Assembly in July this year.
The observer team also applauded the Angolan people, political parties and coalitions for their political maturity.
It then congratulated the National Electoral Commission CNE), security forces and other stakeholders for conducting the electoral process in a peaceful way.
The AU urged political parties and candidates to work together in order to consolidate peace and democracy in Angola.
The observers of the AU Electoral Observation Mission were made up of representatives from 24 African countries.
