WINDHOEK: A man who was arrested here in the early hours of Thursday while in possession of dagga worth about N.dollars 1,9 million made his first appearance in court here on Friday morning.

The suspected drug dealer, Richard Blaauw (age unknown) made his first court appearance in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court on Friday morning on a charge of illegal possession of dagga.

His case was, however, postponed to 26 September this year as police investigations into the matter were still at an initial stage.

Blaauw appeared before Windhoek Magistrate Vanessa Stanley, and he was ordered to remain in police custody with no option to post bail unless he makes a formal bail application.

Public Prosecutor Arrie Husselmann appeared for the prosecution, while local defence lawyer Orben Sibeya represented Blaauw.

The suspected drug dealer was arrested in the Brakwater area by members of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Drug Enforcement Unit through the police’s own intelligence-led operations in the early hours of Thursday.

At the time of arrest, the police found a total of 26 bags containing dagga hidden in a truck, Khomas Regional Police Commander, Commissioner Festus Shilongo said on Thursday.
