KEETMANSHOOP: Two more students from the Karas Region received fully-sponsored bursaries from the annual Skorpion/Karas Regional Governor’s Bursary Fund.
The bursary scheme started in 2012, following a request by Karas Governor Bernardus Swartbooi to Skorpion Zinc Mine, and two students received scholarships that year.
On Tuesday, Brendon Richard Cloete from the Karasburg High School and Fousy Jaar from the Suiderlig High School signed contracts for their bursaries this year.
The two thanked the governor and Skorpion Zinc for making their dreams possible, and promised to study hard, make their parents proud and also set a good example for their peers.
Speaking at the event, Swartbooi congratulated the students for working hard and achieving good results in Grade 12 last year, and for making the region proud.
He added that it is crucial that young people from Karas perform well in school in view of the Southern Unam Centre which will be operational in Keetmanshoop soon.
