Kamung’ei FC Clinches Victory in Inaugural Wakili Cup Tournament


Sotik, Kenya – Kamung’ei Football Club triumphed in the first Wakili Cup, edging out Mogoywet Snippers 3-2 in a penalty shootout following a goalless draw in regulation and extra time. The match concluded the tournament that began on December 10, 2023, in Ngererit, Mogogosiek, Bomet Central.



According to Kenya News Agency, the competition was initiated by Bomet Senator Wakili Hillary Sigei to discover and develop youth talent across the region. The final, held at the Bomet IAAF stadium, drew an audience of over 30,000 fans and featured prominent guests including Bomet Deputy Governor Shadrach Rotich and Senate Majority leader Aaron Cheruiyot.



The closely contested final saw Kamung’ei FC implement a robust defense strategy against the more aggressive Mogoywet Snippers, who dominated ball possession throughout the match. Despite intense efforts from both sides, neither team could break the deadlock during normal and extra time, leading to the decisive penalty shootout.



Mogoywet Snippers received a prize of 700,000 Kenyan shillings for their second-place finish, while Kapsimbirir FC claimed third place and a 250,000 Kenyan shillings reward after defeating Chpkolon FC 2-1 in normal time.
