Ziou’s CEB Team Clinches Victory in Nahouri Maracana Tournament


ZIOU — The inaugural Maracana tournament of the prefects of the departments of Zecco and Ziou concluded on Saturday, May 4, 2024, with Ziou’s Basic Education Districts (CEB) team emerging victorious over Zecco in the final match.



According to Burkina Information Agency, Etienne Sanglan, prefect of Zecco, and Salam Marané, prefect of Ziou, the tournament was not only a competitive event but also a communal activity designed to foster a spirit of healthy collaboration and mutual understanding among different decentralized state services operating within the two departments. They emphasized that the event aimed to promote social cohesion among the populations and between civil servants and the local communities.



The final game saw the CEB teams of Zecco and Ziou face off, with Ziou securing the win with a 1-0 score. Along with the trophy, Ziou’s team was awarded 50,000 CFA francs and a football, while the runner-up received 30,000 CFA francs and a ball. Prizes were also distributed to all participating teams, both in cash and in kind.



The opening match was held in Zecco, with the final game taking place in Ziou. Both customary and religious leaders from the two departments conducted prayers for the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Fatherland (VDP), who are engaged in national territorial reconquest efforts. The local authorities took this opportunity to express their gratitude towards the community members who supported the initiative.



Plans are already in place to hold the second edition of the tournament in 2025.
