WINDHOEK: A Windhoek police officer who allegedly went on a shooting spree at a nightclub in the capital over the weekend made his first court appearance in the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday.
The 27-year-old police officer, Simataa Justin Munzu made his first court appearance in the Katutura Magistrate’s Court along Mungunda Street on two charges of murder and attempted murder.
The police officer appeared before Windhoek Magistrate Kauli Nghishitende, and his case was remanded until 03 December this year as police investigations into the matter were still at an initial stage.
A summary of substantial facts contained in the charge-sheet had it that Munzu allegedly killed Congolese national Maelfirmino Fabrice by shooting him with a pistol at a nightclub in Khomasdal last Friday.
Munzu allegedly also assaulted Namibian Ricky Likando by shooting at him with a pistol, and wounding him in the process.
The police at Kamanjab are investigating the rape of a 15-year-old girl after she was attacked there on Saturday night.
A Namibian Police Force (NamPol) crime report availed to Nampa yesterday said the girl was raped at a friend’s room on Saturday at around 23h00.
A 23-year-old suspect has since been arrested and investigations into the matter continue.
Also at Kamanjab, the police recovered three goats stolen from a 71-year-old farmer on Saturday.
The goats belong to Alfons Edward Kaurutue, who farms in the Kamanjab area.
The police indicated that they responded quickly upon receiving a tip-off that someone was attempting to sell three goats without a livestock permit.
