KEETMANSHOOP: Community members of the Area 7 informal settlement at Luderitz can look forward to fresh bread and cakes from their own bakery as from next month.
One of the members of the bakery’s management team, Ephraim Simon told Nampa in a telephonic interview today that members of the community in January approached the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) with a request for help in acquiring equipment for the establishment of a bakery there.
The ministry agreed, and on Monday availed nearly N.dollars 36 000 for the purchasing of equipment and other necessities under its support programme introduced in 2009 to help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to grow.
The oven, dough mixer, bakery sheets and bread pans, amongst other equipment, will be officially handed over to the project managers – Simon, Erastus Hanghome and Martin Kandume – by the Luderitz constituency office on Tuesday.
The bakery, which is set to open early in September, will be situated in a building in Area 7 which was availed to the project by the town council there.
