Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias’ statement upon arrival at the EU Foreign Affairs Council (Brussels, 13.12.2021)

In the Council today, we will discuss the Options Paper, that Mr. Borrell is going to present, regarding our options for imposing sanctions on Turkey due to its unlawful conduct in Varosha. That is, due to the fact that it disregards International Law and the framework set by the United Nations Security Council Resolutions.

In addition, we will discuss the issue of Belarus, that is, the way authoritarian regimes on the EU’s periphery exploit the migration issue to exert pressure on the European Union, disregarding Rule of Law.
