Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Alexandros Papaioannou’s response to a journalist’s question, regarding the Press Release by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey on the “destruction” of an Ottoman-era cemetery in the village of Petinos of Avdira, during construction work for a football field (18.03.2022)

Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Alexandros Papaioannou, responding to a relevant journalist’s question, stated the following:

“We are surprised at the attempt to create an issue where there is none, since both the competent Greek authorities acted swiftly and the Turkish side recognized the responsible stance of our country’s competent state bodies which, through statements and actions on the ground, proved our respect for the protection of all the monuments of cultural and religious heritage within our territory”.
