Chad Seeks Burkina Faso’s Backing for ASECNA Leadership Bid


OUAGADOUGOU — In a significant diplomatic engagement, a Chadian government delegation met with Burkina Faso’s President of the Transition, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, to solicit support for Chad’s nominee for the leadership of the Agency for Safety and Air Navigation in Africa (ASECNA).



According to Burkina Information Agency, the delegation, led by Chad’s Minister of Economy, Planning and International Cooperation, Mahamat Assouyouti Abakar, conferred with President Traoré about endorsing Chad’s candidate for the position of Director General at ASECNA. The Chadian minister expressed gratitude for Burkina Faso’s favorable stance, emphasizing the bid as a collective effort for the Sahel region’s representation in the agency.



During their discussions, the Chadian minister conveyed a message of solidarity from Chad’s President, General Mahamat Idriss Déby, underscoring the longstanding supportive relationship between Chad and Burkina Faso. Minister Abakar articulated the mutual interests and historical ties that bond the two nations, highlighting the significance of this support in the context of both countries’ broader regional aspirations and solidarity.



The meeting also delved into the existing bilateral relations, with affirmations of their strength and historical depth. Burkina Faso’s potential endorsement of Chad’s ASECNA leadership bid was framed as an extension of this enduring partnership, reflecting a shared commitment to advancing regional collaboration and development within the aviation safety and navigation sector.
