Ethiopia and UK Discuss Economic Prospects and Cooperation at WB-IMF Spring Meetings

WASHINGTON D.C. – Finance Minister Ahmed Shide, leading an Ethiopian delegation, met with UK State Minister for Development and Africa Andrew Mitchell during the 2024 WB-IMF Spring Meetings. The talks centered on Ethiopia’s economic outlook and its resilience in the face of local and global challenges.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, the discussions also highlighted the UK’s investment interests in Ethiopia and its support for regional stability and integration in the Horn of Africa. Minister Shide expressed gratitude for the UK’s ongoing support to Ethiopia, including in areas such as humanitarian aid, economic reforms, infrastructure, human development, and private sector investment. On his part, Minister Mitchell reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to Ethiopia, emphasizing advocacy for a robust IDA21 replenishment.

The meeting concluded with both sides agreeing to deepen bilateral cooperation in strategic and priority sectors in Ethiopia.
