Makueni Governor Issues Stern Warning to Contractors Over Project Delays

MAKUENI, Kenya — Makueni County Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr has issued a stark warning to contractors working on county government projects, stating that any delays in project completion will lead to contract termination. Speaking at the Kathozweni Dairy Farmers Cooperative Society, where a contractor has been delaying water piping to the dairy processing plant for ten months, Mutula emphasized his administration’s intolerance for delays and committed to ensuring timely completion of all development projects.

According to Kenya News Agency, the move to enforce strict deadlines comes as part of a broader effort to streamline development work within the county. During his development tour of Kathozweni Subcounty, the governor highlighted his commitment to accountability and efficiency in project execution. “My government will no longer entertain such contractors, their contracts will be terminated,” Mutula stated, underlining the seriousness of his administration’s stance on the matter.

The governor’s tour also included a visit to Kwa Mbila Dam, where he inaugurated solar power panels designed to pump water to approximately 13,500 beneficiaries across 23 villages, replacing the previous diesel generator system. This initiative is seen as a step towards sustainable development and improved infrastructure in Makueni County.

Additionally, Mutula expressed concern over the vandalism of county projects, specifically accusing a prominent businessman of orchestrating such acts for scrap metal. He called on the police to take decisive action against those responsible for undermining county development efforts.

The visit also took the governor to the Kathozweni Livestock Yard, which is currently 90% complete. Accompanied by Executive Committee Member (ECM) for Agriculture Joyce Mutua, Makueni County Assembly Speaker Douglas Mbilu, and other senior county officials and leaders, Mutula’s tour underscored the county government’s dedication to improving local infrastructure and services.
