Mvita DCC Targets Moral Reformation in Area Schools

MVITA – In a determined effort to curb indiscipline in local secondary schools, Mvita Sub-County’s Deputy County Commissioner Ronald Mwiwawi has emphasized the crucial role of parental involvement in shaping their children’s character and future prospects.

According to Kenya News Agency, who spoke at an event at Ronald Ngala School where Mvita Member of Parliament Mohamed Machele distributed Ksh 44 million in educational grants to over 5,000 needy students, there is a pressing concern regarding the conduct of students in the region. The Deputy County Commissioner highlighted a decline in juvenile-related offenses and an improvement in academic performance as positive trends but stressed the importance of sustained vigilance by parents.

Mwiwawi addressed specific issues observed in the region, such as post-school brawls at key locations like the Likoni crossing channel and Nyali Bridge, attributing these to a broader problem of moral decay. He pinpointed instances of students converting public spaces into inappropriate venues and warned of the dangers of substance abuse among the youth, urging parents to be more proactive in monitoring their children’s activities and whereabouts.

In response to these challenges, Mwiwawi announced plans to conduct visits to several schools, including Serani, Sacred Heart, and Mvita Boys Secondary, to address and mitigate instances of student indiscipline directly.

The Deputy County Commissioner’s call to action was echoed by MP Mohamed Machele, who defended Mvita’s students by pointing out that many involved in school altercations were from neighboring constituencies. Machele highlighted the demographic dynamics affecting local educational institutions and outlined a forthcoming initiative to transform Mama Ngina Secondary School into a technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institution. This move aims to provide practical skills to a significant portion of the constituency’s youth who do not meet university entry requirements.

Machele also implored parents to shoulder their educational responsibilities and cautioned against over-reliance on political figures for support, suggesting that such dependence could inadvertently fuel corruption.

The concerted efforts of Mvita’s leaders underscore a commitment to fostering a conducive learning environment and instilling values that will benefit the community’s youth and future.
