Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias to meet with Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Ireland, Simon Coveney (Athens, 17.06.2022)

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias, will meet tomorrow, June 17, in Athens with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Ireland, Simon Coveney (who also holds the portfolio of the Ministry of Defence), in the context of the latter’s visit to Greece.

The two Ministers will hold a one-on-one meeting, which will be followed by expanded talks between the two delegations.

The Foreign Ministers will then make joint statements to the press at approximately 13:20, followed by a working lunch.

Discussions between the two Foreign Ministers will cover the further development of bilateral cooperation in a wide range of areas, under the recently established Road Map (i.a. trade, economy, culture, Diaspora issues).

In addition, talks are also expected to focus on international and regional developments, with an emphasis on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and developments in the Eastern Mediterranean, Western Balkans and Middle East.

Various EU issues are also expected to be discussed, such as migration and the progress of EU-UK negotiations, including the Protocol on Ireland and Northern Ireland.
It is noted that it is the first visit to Greece by an Irish Foreign Minister in 17 years.
